Words and pseudo-words

When the speakers of a certain language read established words, they use by default the lexical route; therefore, they “seek inside the storage of known words” if the set of letters at issue corresponds to one of those known words. This enables reading to be fast. When pseudo-words are presented, a superficial route is employed; this route allows to read a set of letters that do not constitute a known word. In the following experiment, you will be able to notice what happens with the way we read both kinds of stimuli.
