A stereotype is a generalized belief about a group of people. Sometimes, beliefs are over-generalized or are applied to every person that belongs to a certain group, which results in prejudice or discrimination (Myers, 2005). A phenomenon that may contribute to the generation of stereotypes is called “illusory correlation”. This phenomenon can be observed in the following experiment.
